Devonshire Terrace wedding: Andrew & Chantel
When Andrew and Chantel first got in touch with me about their City of London wedding in Devonshire Terrace, I was a little excited as I love London weddings! They were planning a relaxed and stylish wedding with a church ceremony, a quiz and even bagpipes and drums! There is something beautifully haunting but relaxing about bagpipes that I absolutely adore. With all these elements, it was gearing up to be a very good day.
I began the morning at the Devonshire Club, where Chantel and her bridesmaids were getting ready together, before heading to the church with Chantel and her parents in a classic London black taxi.
The wedding took place at the stunning Christ Church Spitalfields, right in the middle of the busy Commercial Street. While Chantel was getting herself ready to enter the church, Andrew was nervously waiting at the altar with his mum and sister. He sensibly had his tissues at the ready as the tears were never far from his eyes throughout the ceremony. After the ceremony, they were showered with confetti as they walked down the stairs of the church before we took the group photos. It was a sunny, cloudless day, which was great as it meant Andrew and Chantel’s guests could easily stroll the five minutes from the church to the reception venue and not worry about parking which is always fun in London!
The wedding reception took place at Devonshire Terrace, which is a high glass-roofed restaurant in Devonshire Square. It’s a quiet little square right in the heart of London, making it an ideal and very unique wedding reception location. While the guests enjoyed canapes and cocktails, we wandered around the venue and surrounding area to take some fun photos with Andrew and Chantel and their wedding party before taking their couple portraits.
When it was time for Andrew and Chantel to make their entrance into their reception, they were preceded by the Black Watch pipes and drums band who played a number of tunes for about 10 minutes to start the reception. I really could have just sat and listened to them all day. Before the traditional breakfast was served, there were a few wonderful speeches, including the groom’s which had lots of laughs and also drew a few tears from Chantel.
Before the cake cutting and the first dance, there was a little interlude so we took the opportunity to take some creative couple photos in and outside Devonshire Terrace. You’ll be amazed how breathtaking a corridor can be with the right posing!
After their first dance, the dance troupe, Afro Unite took to the stage to entertain guests with their high energy moves before the dance floor was officially opened. There were so many fun moments throughout the day and I feel so honoured to have been able to capture it all for Andrew and Chantel. Thanks must go to Dewan Demmer for being a great second shooter as well as fab company.
Andrew and Chantel, wishing you both all the best for a fantastic start to your new lives together.
