Personal: London Marathon 2014
I’ve attended nearly every London Marathon for the past seven or so years and love the atmosphere and cheering the runners on.
This was the first year that my partner, Alex, would be running London and he couldn’t wait. He had applied for the ballot every year for the past six years and had been unsuccessful.
However, he won a club place through his running club, East End Road Runners, at Christmas so would finally get to live the dream.
Alex ran his first marathon last September in Berlin and smiled the whole way around. He has since run a number of marathons and London was his third in six weeks! No, I don’t consider that normal either! ;o)
Mel, a uni friend, and I positioned ourselves at Limehouse, her partner was taking part in his 14th London Marathon! Being here gave us a chance to see both Alex and Adrian at miles 14 and 21.
When I watch races I always feel inspired to get my trainers on, but a 5k to me is a marathon and I just can’t see myself running any further than that. Other sports just appeal to me more, but I admire anyone who runs marathons, regardless of how slow or fast they cover the distance.
Alex finished in 3:34:38, a new personal best, and was so happy to have had the chance to run London and soak up the amazing atmosphere.
If you’re interested in running in next year’s marathon, the ballot opens on Tuesday 22nd April.
Here are a few memories from Sunday from a spectator’s view point. Enjoy.
