The London Wedding Club Networking Event

When I took my first steps into wedding photography over 8 years ago, I knew one other person in the industry - the photographer I was working for. After a few weddings under my belt I decided I wanted to pursue wedding photography more seriously. However, I was at a loss as where to start. Which albums should I use? What needs to be in a contract? How do I charge? How do I book brides and grooms?

I did not follow the full time route back then instead deciding to grow my skills and knowledge through training and shooting weddings part-time and creating albums myself. Today, with us all being so reliant on the Internet and social media, it has become easier to locate information I had previously struggled to find. On a daily basis I am in contact with photographers from the UK as well as abroad through Twitter, Facebook and their blogs.

We ask questions, we share knowledge as well as all our doubts and fears and we encourage each other constantly to pursue our dreams in which ever branch of photography we are in. It has been a God send to have this support network. Early in January, I joined a Facebook group called the London Wedding Club. It is the brainchild of Laura Babb, a rather talented wedding photographer who saw the need for London wedding suppliers to have a forum to meet, share ideas, network and collaborate together.

To make everyone more than just Facebook friends, Laura along with Sophie Biebuyck, organised the first networking event of the LWC two weeks ago at Keston Lodge in Islington. For me it was a fantastic opportunity to put faces to people I have been speaking to online for months as well as meet other wedding suppliers.

It can always be nerve wrecking walking into a room full of strangers but everyone was so inviting it was very easy to relax. As clichéd as it sounds, time really does fly when you are having fun so I didn’t manage to talk to everyone, but I know there will be many opportunities for us to meet again. What this group has managed to do in a short time is to put me in touch with some amazing wedding industry people that I would love to connect all my future couples with.

Special mention of course goes to Laura and Sophie for organising a great evening but also to Kate Ruth Romney for our beautiful name bagdes. For our goody bag treats, a big thank you to Ciara Mullan - Wed in London, Samantha O’Brien - A Little London Wedding, Teri Capon - Belle of the Ball Hair and Sophie Griffiths - Violet and Green Photography. For the gorgeous balloons that decorated the venue, Rebecca Moyster - Bonbon Balloons.

Unlike Fight Club, the first rule of the London Wedding Club is to talk about the London Wedding Club! So if you want to find out more about what we are getting up to, our Twitter tag is #LDNWeddingClub.

There is one person left to thank. Mark Osborne, as well as being our official photographer on the night, he has been kind enough to let me share some of his photographs here with you.

Enjoy!
